Alan B. Mollohan is Of Counsel to Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP in West Virginia.  A former Member of the United States House of Representatives, Mr. Mollohan served 14 terms, having been first elected in 1982 to represent West Virginia’s 1st Congressional District.

Mr. Mollohan was appointed to the powerful House Appropriations Committee where he served from 1986 to 2010. During this time, he served on five Appropriations Subcommittees: as Chairman from 2007-2010 of Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies (NASA, LSC, NSF, OSTP, PTO); as Ranking Member on VA, HUD and Independent Agencies; as a member of Interior, Environment and Related Agencies (EPA); as a member of Military Construction, Veteran Affairs and Related Agencies; and as a member of Homeland Security. During his tenure, Mr. Mollohan also served on the House Ethics Committee as its Ranking Member and as a member of the House Budget Committee. In addition, he served on the Executive Committee of the Congressional Steel Caucus; as Co-Chair of the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Caucus; and as a member of the Coal Group and the Historic Preservation Caucus.

As Chairman of the Commerce, Justice, Science Appropriations Subcommittee, Mr. Mollohan was directly involved in programmatic funding decisions related to NASA, NOAA, NSF, and the BATF. Throughout his 28-year tenure in Congress, he worked to diversify the economy of his district in Northern West Virginia, helping to facilitate the growth of the high technology, aerospace, and government service sectors, while working closely with the area’s educational institutions to encourage investment in academic research and economic development.

Prior to his election to Congress, Mr. Mollohan practiced law in West Virginia and Washington, DC. His practice included civil litigation, administrative law and serving as counsel to trade associations in the areas of health and safety, the environment, and the manufacture and transport of explosive products.

A native of Fairmont, West Virginia, Mr. Mollohan graduated from Greenbrier Military School in Lewisburg, West Virginia. He earned an A.B. degree from the College of William & Mary and his LL.D from West Virginia University College of Law. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1970-1983.
