M. Ronald McMahan, Jr. is a partner of Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP. He practices in Columbia in the areas of business litigation, franchise law and litigation, and appellate practice, with an emphasis on automobile franchise litigation. In this area, he has represented numerous automobile manufacturers in cases arising from add points, relocations, terminations, warranty and incentive payments, allocations, and numerous other aspects of the manufacturer-dealer relationship. In his practice, Mr. McMahan has represented automotive and other clients in franchising and dealer matters in more than ten states. In addition to representing automotive clients, Mr. McMahan also represents several banking institutions, equipment manufacturers, coatings manufacturers, and other businesses.
A member of the South Carolina Bar, Mr. McMahan is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina and the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals. Prior to joining Nelson Mullins in 2004, Mr. McMahan was affiliated with another South Carolina law firm. He is the author of Comment, "Grandparent Visitation Rights in South Carolina in the Wake of Troxel v. Granville," 52 S.C. L. REV. 759 (2001).

In 2002, Mr. McMahan earned a Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from the University of South Carolina School of Law, where he was named to the Order of the Coif. He also served as a member of the South Carolina Law Review, was named Clerk of Court for the Order of Wig and Robe, and received eight CALI Awards. Mr. McMahan earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and History, summa cum laude, with Honors in History, from Presbyterian College in 1999.
