John Wooden, the legendary UCLA basketball coach who won 10 national championships in 12 years, never talked to his team about winning. His long-term coaching technique was to constantly reinforce the idea of thorough preparation. As simplistic as this may seem, he felt that ultimately you are successful if you prepare so well that you do the best that you can possibly do within the limits of your ability.
