Raleigh Partner Bill Gammon Announces the N.C. Bar's 2011 Citizen Lawyers
June 27, 2011

Raleigh partner Bill Gammon's address to the North Carolina Bar Association Annual Meeting announcing the 2011 Class of Citizen Lawyers. Raleigh partner Charles Mercer is a recipient.
Good morning, I am Bill Gammon. I have had the privilege for the last two years of serving as the Chair of your Citizen Lawyer Task Force. We are here today to recognize 15 outstanding North Carolina attorneys chosen as Citizen Lawyers for 2011.
First, a few words about the award itself. The Citizen Lawyer Award was created in 2007 to recognize and honor NC lawyers who not only provide exemplary service in their capacity as lawyers, but also who give immense time to their communities in a variety of ways. This includes public service in local or state government in elected or appointed positions, or volunteer positions as varied as coaching youth sports teams or serving as tutors or mentors to young people, or volunteering or serving as board members for non-profit or community organizations. The Bar Association believes that lawyers are uniquely qualified to serve in these capacities, and they should be recognized for doing so. And by recognizing such Citizen Lawyers, we hopefully will inspire other members of the bar to emulate their good works.
